What’s the history behind FREE Cone Day?
Are you curious about the reason behind such a large company offering delicious ice cream for free? It’s actually a yearly tradition that began over 45 years ago, during Ben & Jerry’s inaugural year of business in 1979. That year, Vermont experienced an exceptionally cold winter, which could have deterred consumers from indulging in a chilly treat. However, the local community of Ben & Jerry’s demonstrated unwavering support, and the ice cream company not only survived but also flourished.
To celebrate their first year in business, owners Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield decided to thank their community by serving as much free ice cream as they could churn out. After that day, FREE Cone Day became a yearly tradition and one that ice cream fans around the world look forward to celebrating.
